The Education of Anna

First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good / Very Good. Item #4899

New York: Times Books, 1980. First Edition. Signed by the author with inscription on half title to William Safire, a political columnist, journalist and White House speechwriter. Handwritten letter from author to Safire laid in front includes a reference to Tiananmen Square: "I now talk and see leaders on both sides (PRC and Taiwan) even after June 4th, 1989, I have much [sic] interesting stories to tell." Chennault, wife of WWII aviator General Claire Lee Chennault, was involved in politics during the Nixon administration and a prominent spokesperson in the China Lobby.

Octavo; 242pp. Pictorial dust jacket with original $12.50 price. Maroon cloth binding with lettering stamped with gold on spine. Dust jacket has some light rubbing, small closed tear on head of spine and minor sunning. Binding is sound. Corners are square. Two pages are dogeared -- page 192 and page 197, possibly signaling a portion of the book Safire found interesting -- a section where Chennault reflects on her role in Nixon's 1968 election campaign. Otherwise pages are clean and unmarked, no tears.
