Signed by editor and translator Jerrold "Jerry" Schecter to author, journalist, and speechwriter William Safire on half title with inscription "For Bill, | With admiration for | your mastery of words + ideas. | Please consult on Kirov | and Castro, | Fondly, | Jerry Schecter." Includes a handwritten memo from Schecter alluding to "what really happened to Kirov."

Safire wrote a column called "The Ghost of Kirov" earlier that same month. Enclosed in the book is also a photocopy of a typed letter from Stephen F. Cohen, Professor of Russian Studies at Princeton. In the letter, Cohen takes issue with several points from Safire's column. Copy of the letter is unfortunately quite faded but still legible.

Octavo; 219pp. Printed dust jacket with original "$19.95" price present; book in black boards with spine stamped in gilt. Dust jacket shows moderate wear and is creased at crown, else fine. Boards are faded in parts along top edge. Binding is sound. Pages are clean and unmarked.
