"This edition of 'Japan Described and Illustrated by the Japanese' was reproduced from originals in the collections of the John Rylands Library, University of Manchester." The work was first published in Boston in 1897-98 and several editions, in varying volume configurations, followed. "This Folio edition follows the text of the ten-volume 'de luxe' edition." With the exception of one fingernail-sized dent near the spine foot of Vol II, the two volumes described here, and their slipcases, are pristine.
