This copy from the personal library of journalist and language writer William Safire. Handwritten letter laid in from Tillie and Hunter Brown on their home stationary reads "Dear Mr. Safire, We enjoy your column 'On Language' in the New York Times Sunday Magazine. We hope you enjoy the enclosed book from England. The Prince of Wales is very interested in 'Plain English' and we wish more Americans knew how to write and speak better English. Keep up the good work! Kind regards, Tillie and Hunter Brown." We have been unable to determine whether the Browns were involved with the book or the Plain English Campaign, or whether they were just fans who sent the book along.
