/ Very Good. Item #6200

Paris: Baillieu Libraire and Lille: Imprimerie de Horemans, [1862]. Reprint by Baillieu/Horemans following the original text of the first, 1486, edition, with illustrations reprinted from the original 15th-century woodcuts.

Quarto; [vi] + 67pp. Broché. Chartreuse wraps printed in black front and back, with Baillieu device on cover incorporating skeletal figures, and vignette on back cover showing Death at work with his scythe. Wraps have an affixed lining of laid tissue (now separating somewhat). Untrimmed textblock of deckle-edged heavy laid paper.

Title-page lettering in typeface composed of gymnastic skeletons (a 19th century touch). Fifty-six original 1486 woodcuts crisply reproduced, aligned with metrical exposition.

Wraps darkened and dust-smudged but not soiled or stained. Broché spine splitting and fragile with book opening flatly between gatherings, but all still holding together.

Price: $225.00
