Very Good. Item #6419
London: George Bell and Sons / Bohn's Standard Library, 1878. 12mo; Vol I xlviii + 356pp; Vol II xii + 400pp, including index. Half calf with raised spine bands; crimson and black spine labels; gilt lettering and ornaments in spine compartments. Boards in small comb marbling, as are endpapers. All textblock edges marbled to match. All binding surfaces and endpapers are original; joints and hinges recently professionally repaired with great cosmetic discretion. Vol II shows some water blackening to right vertical joint, loss of about 10% of black spine label. Spine crowns and feet of both volumes chafed; moderate abrasion to board edges and corners. Marbled board surfaces of both volumes scuffed. Textblocks of both volumes unmarred and unmarked; printed on excellent paper: no acid tanning and no foxing.
Bohn's standard English edition of Montesquieu is here presented in a neatly refined binding.
