Burgundy cloth with gold lettering on spine. Cloth mildly soiled, with some scratches, and nudging to crown and foot of sunned spine. Lettering darkened on spine. Water stain at lower left on front face, but board unwarped and pages unaffected. Textblock tanned but clean and unmarked.

Study focuses on five "Negro cults" specific to Philadelphia, including Mt. Sinai Holy Church of America, United House of Prayer for All People, Church of God, Moorish Science Temple of America, and Father Divine Peace Mission Movement. The publication committee notes in the foreword, "Himself partly of Negro origin, Dr. Fauset was endowed for this study with a background, point of view, and an entrée to the field which could never have been possessed by one of exclusively European tradition and descent."
