Octavo (8" x 5"); Part I [l], 75p, Appendix to Part I 19p, Part II 1-82, [ii], 83-176, Part III 96p. Twenty fold-out plates. Likely missing initial half title, with text starting with page i after flyleaf. Contemporary calf with gilt ruled border and red leather title card to spine. Covers edgeworn and bumped at corners and spine ends, with a small chip to head of spine and a good bit of scuffing and smudging to face. Some occasional creasing and dog-earing to pages, but generally clean and crisp with no marks. Binding is sound. Not an ex-library copy.

Comprises half of Rowning's sweeping treatise on natural science, with Part I covering Mechanics (Physics), Part II Hydrostatics and Pneumatics, and Part III Optics (containing Chapters I-7 and Dissertation I, "Of the Horizontal Moon). The missing second volume would have contained Chapters 8-13 and the final three Dissertations, along with Part IV covering Astronomy.
