Boston: Roberts Brothers, 1886. Octavo; 32pp. Illustrated beveled boards with red cloth spine. Patterned endpapers. Full color chromolithographic illustrations in mid 19th-century pastels on every page. All textblock edges stained in red.
Boards soiled with eroded and bumped edges and corners. Irregular horizontal abrasion runs across front panel. Cloth tear of 1" at bottom of front joint. Binding loosening, but pages still intact and clean. Toning throughout. Elegant gift notation in ink (December 25, 1886) on first blank page.
The Boston republication in English of the original French "La journée de bébé" from 1885. Author M. Arnaud cannot be traced; but illustrator Firmin Bouisset remains celebrated in France and Europe as the creator of the now revered advertising images for Chocolat Menier and Maggi, among many other products.
