Very Good / Very Good. Item #000835
Washington, D.C.: 1973 Inaugural Committee, 1973. First Edition. Quarto; 96pp. Patriotic images and photographs from Nixon's first term on every page. Dust jacket of Air-Force-One blue, with inaugural device on front and color photograph of White House on back. Navy blue boards with eagle seal in gold on front panel, and gilt lettering on spine.
Very slight fading to dust jacket spine; minor scuffing to edges, folds, and corners. Binding and textblock unmarred and unmarked. Very faint signs of foxing starting on textblock edges.
Text consists of celebrated patriotic quotations and short summaries of first-term events. Most interesting are the images of Pat Nixon in China; most ironized retroactively is the praise of Spiro Agnew as a "man of courage and conviction."
Inserted into the volume are seven pieces of documentary ephemera from the inaugural events, all but the first pristine: 1) an 8 1/2" x 11" invitation to attend the Nixon-Agnew inauguration, on cream cardstock (with some coffee stains to top and bottom edges); 2) a Thursday evening invitation on cardstock to an Inaugural Committee reception; 3) a Friday afternoon invitation on cardstock to a "Salute to America's Heritage"; 4) a Saturday evening invitation to the Inaugural Ball; 5) a 16-page Sunday morning program for the White House Worship Service; 6) an unused order form on wove paper for Inaugural Parade tickets; and 7) an unused order form on wove paper for the Official Inaugural Plate.
