British Policy in Kenya Colony

Very Good. Item #001422

New York: Thomas Nelson and Sons, 1937. First Edition. Inscribed by author (but not signed) on front free endpaper: "To Kariuki K. Njuri with all good wishes from the Author, July 3 1958." Octavo; vii + 296pp, including bibliography and index. Green cloth boards with gold lettering on spine.

Binding lightly soiled. Spine darkened and frayed crown and foot. Corners worn. Textblock edges evenly tanned. Rear free endpaper shows minor red liquid stain. Binding shaken but still holding well. Some underlining and marginal vertical strokes in ink, appearing in first 16 pages only.

This volume, surveying the effects of British colonial policy on racial groups, history, indigenous political structures, and even geography, is still authoritative for its era. A balancing corrective to Isak Dinesen's anecdotal "Out of Africa," it covers many of the same regions and issues during the same time period.
