Octavo (8.5" x 6"); xxi, 191p. Some pages still uncut. Patterned brown paper-covered boards with black cloth spine and paper title card. No dustjacket. Covers lightly edgeworn with bumping to corners and spine ends and a small abrasion from tape removal at top front edge. Spine a bit cocked. Covers open a bit easily but binding is sound. Pages unmarked.
Collection of lumberjack songs, old and historical ballads, and broadsides from the state of Maine. Prior owner and dedicatee John H[uston] Finley was at times President of City College of New York, University of the State of New York, and Commissioner of Education for the State of New York, as well as President of the American Geographical Society and briefly Editor in Chief of the New York Times until his health forced him to assume the role of editor emeritus until his death. A promenade along the East River in New York is named John Finley Walk in his honor.
