Ownership inscription of Gilmer & Josephine Easley dated 1917 on front pastedown. George Gilmer Easley was a Virginia lawyer who worked for a time in the passport division in Washington D.C. His wife, formerly Josephine Beverley Mason, was the daughter of Beverley Randolph Mason, an educator and founder of Guston Hall School for young women in Washington, D.C. and great-grandson of George Mason, author of the Virginia Bill of Rights and namesake of George Mason University.
