Novel of post-war New York City class and geographical dichotomy, with some criminal elements thrown in for good measure. Though Davenport is best known for her 1932 biography of Mozart, East Side, West Side was her second novel to be adapted into film, in this case directed by Mervyn LeRoy and starring Barbara Stanwyck and Ava Gardner.
