Boards edgeworn with bumping to corners, a few runs to cloth, judging and scuffs to spine ends, and a few stray spots and smudges. Spine a bit cocked. Opens easily between gatherings, but binding is holding. Ownership signature of a Mary Speer with "The Lawn [?]" dated 1918 on front free endpaper. Half title toned. Pages unmarked.

Later American edition of the Blackwood's first collection of John Silence stories. Vaughan's colophon relays that the First American Edition (John W. Luce & Co., printed from plates of the 1908 Nash First UK Edition) consisted of 1000 copies, the second and third (Vaughan & Gomme) of 500 and 250 copies respectively, and that this fourth edition consisted of 500 copies.
