Illustrated dust jacket with seven titles to rear and "60 cts" price listed. Light tan cloth stamped in dark green and purple. Dark topstain.

Dust jacket chipped and creased along edges with a 1 1/2" closed tear to bottom edge of front panel. Heavily rubbed and smudged. Boards lightly soiled along edges. Binding is sound. Ownership inscription and bookseller annotations in pencil to front free endpaper; smudging to edges of text block; overall pages otherwise legible and unmarked.

Part of a series of books for young girls begun by Baum under the Van Dyne pseudonym in 1906. The publisher's contract called for the books to be "on the style of Louisa M. Alcott stories, but not so good..." The series proved successful, and the publisher kept it going even after Baum's death in 1919.
