Chicago: The Reilly & Britton Co., 1912. First Edition with "Reilly & Britton" to spine and title page and Baum titles listed to John Dough and the Cherub. Octavo. 288 pp. 12 color plates including frontis, complete; black and white illustrations throughout. Red cloth with front cover full color paper label illustration. No dust jacket. Illustrated endpapers.
Boards worn with brief exposure to extremities and minor fraying to bottom of spine. Rubbing and light wear to front illustration. A bit shaky in binding but holding. Ownership page filled in but otherwise pages unmarked.
Follows Trot from The Sea Fairies and links with the Oz mythos through the inclusion of Button-Bright and Polychrome. Reviews were positive and Baum ranked Sky Island as one of his best and most imaginative works, but sales were slow and he was forced to return almost exclusively to Oz works for the rest of his career.
