Dust jacket worn along edges with some toning and creasing and a 1 1/2" closed tear to front panel. Boards lightly shelfworn with an abrasion and small patch of discoloration to front. Binding is sound. Extensive underlining in red pen to first 250 pages. Overall still a very good copy of Hofstadter's classic study of the effects of the democratization of education and the Protestant tradition in the United States.
