New York: Limited Editions Club, 1983. Limited Edition, signed by John Hersey, Jacob Lawrence, and Robert Penn Warren in pencil and numbered 1007 of 1500 copies on colophon at rear. Quarto (12.75" x 9.75"); unpaginated. Eight silk screens by Lawrence with loose tissue guards, complete. Full black aniline leather blind-stamped at front. All edges black, with black endpapers. Publisher's monthly letter and instructions for care laid in at front. Housed in publisher's slipcase with dark purple lettering.

Boards are square with a few faint scuffs and smudges to surface and significant fading to spine. Fairly heavy and large-patched foxing to preliminary and terminal pages (though not to colophon), with much lighter to non-existent foxing to rest of interior and a few tissue guards (not affecting illustrations). Prior owner's armorial bookplate attached (upside-down) to rear pastedown. Binding is sound and pages unmarked. Monthly Letter of The Limited Editions Club and leather care card, both also somewhat foxed, laid in at front. Slipcase is a bit rubbed along edges, but sturdy and solid. Smells a bit musty, but not of smoke.
