Small quarto (21cm.); original stitched pictorial wrappers; unpaged; woodcut illus. in text. Upper wrapper (often missing) illustrated with an elaborate full-page woodcut depicting a dock scene, with a European and an Oriental person about to be joined by a third man arriving from a dinghy, a port town lying just beyond them. The sky shows day transitioning into night with Mercury hovering between the sun and moon holding a banner that reads "Hoffnung besserer Zeiten" [Hope for Better Times]. Upper wrapper spine edge reinforced (as issued?) with contemporary wastepaper printed in German blackletter; spine perished, some wear to extremities with a few short closed tears. Contemporary annotations throughout. Lacks plate leaf A3, though the woodcut of the plant Alisma plantago (European water-plantain, sometimes used as a cure for rabies) is present.
