The Engineers' Annual! A Hand-book for Canadian Marine Engineers
Claremont, Ontario: W.H. Bundy, 1895. Very Good. Item #25978
Claremont, Ontario: W.H. Bundy, 1895. First Edition. 12mo (7.25" x 4.75"); 126pp. Illustrations, tables, and adverts throughout. Publisher's brown cloth with gilt lettering and engine illustration to front. Boards a bit edgeworn with some scuffs, smudges, and a few light runs to cloth. Gilt is clear and bright. Endpapers toned. A small spot of exposure along back hinge, but binding is sturdy and sound. Occasional light foxing and some smudges, but pages unmarked.
A "handy collection of Tables, Rules, and Formulae, which shall be useful to [Canadian Marine Engineers Association members] in their business" meant to also "awaken among Marine Engineers a keener interest in the aims and objects of the Association, with a view to increased membership, and better organization for the furthering of the interests of the craft generally." Includes numerous illustrations of various steamships, tables and charts, and numerous ads for both marine and general businesses, including a running footer for Toronto's Canadian Mineral Wool Co., Ltd., who were very keen on talking about their asbestos products. The CMEA was established in Toronto in 1883, but this was their first trade publication. Scarce, with one institutional copy at the Ingenium Centre Library in Ottawa and none found in auction records or the trade at time of writing.
