Jacket shows a couple shallow tears at top back edge, rubbing down joints and at spine ends and faint dampstaining at top corners. Boards are sturdy and square, with bumping at corners and spine ends. Small bookseller's ticket for Ray Riling Arms Books Co of Philadelphia on back pastedown, with Riling's advert card laid in at back. Binding is sound and pages unmarked.

Scarce military history / Custeriana volume, limited to 100 copies per Dowd and O'Keefe. Nine of those copies accounted for via OCLC, with no others in retail or auction records at time of writing.

Jacket copy notes "A detailed account of the U.S. Cavalry of the West from 1865 to 1890 -- Covering the Cavalry battles with the Indians during that era, including General Custer's Last Stand, The Taking of Chief Joseph and The Pursuit of Geronimo. Dowd and O'Keefe also note material comparing the leadership abilities of Randall Mackenzie, Nelson Miles, George Crook, and Custer.
