Windsor: Oxley & Son, 1950. Very Good. Item #26836
Windsor: Oxley & Son, 1950. First Edition. Octavo[iv], 90pp. Publisher's blue cloth with gilt lettering. Boards bumped at corners and spine ends, with some fading to spine and along edges and some general smudging to surface. Glossy color bookplate of Ewing Pendleton Knox on front pastedown, with a 1989 receipt from Scots Books of Dixon, CA attached to rear free endpaper. A few instances of Knox's marginalia and underlining, with lengthy commentary on the book on a terminal blank. Text all legible.
Prior owner notes the passing of Thomas Daniel Knox, sixth Earl of Ranfurly, in November of 1988 — a year before he purchased this volume. In his comments on the book at hand he notes that having read the Genealogical Memoirs of John Knox (1879) "it is quite obvious that the author of this book...did not refer or consult all the genealogy on the Knox family that was available to him at that time" and that "a careful perusal of the above book would have revealed to him facts and data that he would not have put in this book, such as Marcus Knoxes wifes [sic]." He adds that "it is not my intention to criticize...but only to show that genealogy is a meticulous subject and all preliminary efforts and materials available should be put to use first!"
Uncommon, with only a few copies in OCLC at time of writing.
