Washington, D.C.: Francis B. Mohun, 1879. First Edition. Octavo (8.5" x 5.75"); 613p. Engraved frontis with tissue guard. Brown cloth-covered boards with gilt emblem and lettering and beveled edges. Bookplate of Colonel M[ichael] V[incent] Sheridan on front pastedown, with his signature on flyleaf. Boards edgeworn with a solid bump to top front corner, a small chip at head of spine, scuffing along joints and edges, and some general soiling to cloth. Boards open a bit easily and shakily, but binding is holding. Sticker residue on front free endpaper with previous bookseller's stamp (D. Scmiller of D.C.) at bottom, with a pencil note opposite on pastedown. A few pages dog-eared at corners, else pages clean and unmarked. Page binding is sound.
Colonel Sheridan was the younger brother of Lieutenant General Philip Sheridan and served on his staff during the Civil War.
