First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. Item #4726
New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1940. Stated First Edition. Octavo; 275 pages. Salmon cloth-covered boards with blue lettering. Lacks dust jacket. Heavily worn along edges, with a few cracks at top and bottom of spine. Corners are frayed. Front cover opens a bit shakily with a crack to hinge before half title, but binding is holding soundly. Moderate staining to fore-edge and bottom edge. A well worn but very good overall copy of Chandler's second Philip Marlowe novel.
