Yonkers-on-Hudson, World Book Company, 1919. Octavo (20.3cm); publisher's illustrated gray cloth; [xii],222pp; b&w illus throughout. Boards a touch edgeworn with light bumps at corners and spine ends. Binding sound and pages unmarked.

Inscribed on front free endpaper "For Melissa Smith -- With all good wishes for a fine American Girl. Affectionately, Margaret & Howard Driggs, September First 1950." We believe this inscription to be in Margaret's hand rather than Howard's.

Revision of Wilson's 1910 Among the Shoshones, most copies of which were suppressed due to criticism of the Mormon church. Howes writes "Blunt, unrestrained narrative of a trapper, Indian fighter, etc., of the Rocky Mountains, from Wyoming and Montana to Idaho and Utah. The 247 page reprint [also 1910] omits account of how he lost is Mormon fiancee." This copy a later printing of the edited reprint, part of the World Book Company's Pioneer Life Series.
