Gratefully, Eric. 30/(?)/1952." Small octavo; [xiv], 146pp. Red cloth with silver lettering to spine. Missing dust jacket. Boards are square with light bumping to spine ends. A couple pencil notes on endpapers, else pages unmarked. Binding is sound.

Collection of essays and smaller vignettes on language, a few of which previously appeared in Leader Magazine before it suspended publication in 1950, where Stephen Potter had been editor. Potter was the author of a series of satirical self-help books, beginning with The Theory and Practice of Gamesmanship: Or the Art of Winning Games Without Actually Cheating. This copy from the personal library of author and journalist William Safire, whose "On Language" column ran for thirty years in The New York Times Magazine.
