Very Good. Item #5489
Toronto: The Clark Co., Yonge Street, . Revised Twenty-Third Edition. Octavo; [xii] + 1487pp. Half bound in sea-green leather with raised bands on spine and gilt-stamped ornaments within spine panels; title gilt-stamped on burgundy ground. Sea-green, gold, and tan marbling front and back, endpapers, and on all textblock edges.
Bookplate of Henry McLallen on front pastedown; explanatory label pasted opposite (somewhat awry) on free front endpaper, declaring "This is one of the 5000 volumes . . . from the library of the late Henry McLallen of Columbia City, Ind. In June, 1922, this collection was lent to the Culver Military Academy . . . [etc.]"
Solid joints and hinges, excellent textblock. Slight scuffing to board and spine edges. Some surface erosion to joints but they remain solid.
Omniscience in a handy, hefty, one-volume format. Original all-knowing volume published in London in 1841; this edition updates all human knowledge through 1903. Volume is not especially hard to find in utilitarian cloth bindings, rarer in this embellished leather and marbling format.
