Indianapolis: The Bobbs-Merrill Company, 1945. Later Printing. Signed by Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America head Will H. Hays on front free endpaper with inscription "To Bill Saffire [sic], with best wishes always. Sincerely yours, Bill Hays. 1/25/50."

Octavo; 266pp. Photo frontis + 8 photo illustrations, all present. Red cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering. Missing dust jacket. Boards bumped at corners with chipping/fraying at head of spine. A few pencil brackets and dog-eared pages, but text is all legible. Binding is sound.

Hays and his office were responsible for creating and enforcing the film industry's morality standards and guidelines, known familiarly as The Hays Code. Signed to Safire when he was still writing columns and celebrity interviews for the New York Herald Tribune.
