New York: George P. Putnam, 1864. First Edition. 24mo (6" x 3.75"); 368pp. Vignette title page. Blue cloth-covered boards with red leather spine and paper spine label. Boards worn at corners with bumping along top edge, soiling to cloth, and some toning to spine. Title page cleanly separated along gutter with small chips along edges, but present and laid in. Previous owner's name on tipped-in 3/4 page, dated in Washington, D.C. in the publication year. Pages toned with some bumping to bottom corners, but unmarked. Binding is sound.
Volume collects "a selection from the best Political and Personal Ballads that have appeared since the commencement of the present Rebellion...gathered from various sources, Rebel as well as National." This copy from the personal library of journalist William Safire.
