Wear with some loss to extremities; cracked along joints and spine ends. Middle third of gatherings collapsed near top of spine of volume two. Ownership inscription dated 1829 to front free endpaper and rear pastedown of each volume. Pages a bit brittle in parts, some unopened. Bindings otherwise sound and pages unmarked.
Scott, more renowned for his historical novels, had visited the Waterloo battlefield and the British government is said to have given him access to papers relating to Napoleon's St. Helena episode.
