This copy from the personal library of journalist and language writer William Safire, but with no prior ownership marks. As we have seen in others of Safire's books, one underline emphasizes an interesting phrase (Dickens's "telescopic philanthropy" from Bleak House), and the dog-eared page marks the start of a passage on William Cobbett, one of Safire's favorite "scandalmongers."
