Octavo. 237 pages. Black and white photographs. Maroon boards with gilt lettering. Lacks dust jacket. Boards worn at spine ends and corners, with some spotting to surface. Gilt dulled. Endpapers are toned. Cracked at gutter of title page and a few gatherings are loose, but overall binding is holding.

A biography of Richard R. Wright, who rose to be the highest-ranking African American officer in the United States Army during the Spanish-American War, and would go on to have a profound effect on African American education in the first half of the twentieth century.

Haynes is heralded as an influential African American Feminist, writing several influential works with a particular focus on women's labor issues.
