Very Good. Item #6290
Boston: James Fisher / Franklin Print Company, 1841. Broadside, approx. 33cm x 25cm. Heavy paper stock, off-white. [Bidwell, 1988: No. 16, note on 1841 printing]
Tanned, with remnants of liquid stain on all edges. Some darker stains and speckles at upper right corner and along right edge. One closed tear at right edge. Printing very crisp.
An image of importance in patriotic homes, reproducing, with detailed exactitude, the portraits of the signers, their signatures, and the arms of all the states in existence in 1841. The print quality is impressively fine, but, at the reduced scale the broadside was created, you will need more than Benjamin Franklin's bifocals to detect the specifics. Did our forebears of 1841 actually read this, or just worship it?
