Allendale, MI: WIB, 1979. Newsprint (17 x 11.25 inches); pp. each except for Vol. 2, No. 11., which is 4 pages. Newsprint toned with minor edgewear.
Feminist student newspaper covering abortion rights, custody rights for lesbian parents, birth control, and sexual harassment.
Vol. 2 , No. 9 includes a powerful guest editorial by Linda Merlotti, a student who wrote a series of articles exposing incidents of sexual harassment by faculty on campus. Merlotti encourages more students to come forward; “Now is the time to flood the Dean’s office with reports… I’ll go with you, someone from WIB will go with you… You aren’t alone. You shouldn’t be afraid, because you didn’t do anything wrong.”
WIBs funding was constantly unstable during its publication, according to coverage in the school’s mainstream student paper The Lanthorn. Editions of the paper were confiscated by the administration after finding content too critical of the school. In 1979, the administration cut WIBs funding entirely when it eliminated the school’s Women Studies Program. Regardless, publication of the paper continued into the 1980s, although less frequent.
