Allendale, MI: WIB, 1979. Newsprint (17 x 11.25 inches); pp. Toned with minor edgewear, but sound.
Feminist student newspaper. This issue covers the Detroit City Council voting out outlaw discrimination against gay and lesbian individuals in 1979. Other articles address pornography, Planned Parenthood resources, and custody rights for lesbian parents.
WIBs funding was constantly unstable during its publication, according to coverage in the school’s mainstream student paper The Lanthorn. Editions of the paper were confiscated by the administration after finding content too critical of the school. And in 1979, the administration cut WIBs funding entirely when it eliminated the school’s Women Studies Program. Regardless, infrequent publication of the paper continued into the 1980s.
