Fair / No Dust Jacket. Item #6554
New York: Longmans, Green, and Co., 1928. New Impression. Signed twice by Somerville -- once on front free endpaper with inscription, "To Josephine Choate Perkins, with love from Scortha, and E. OE Somerville, June 1930," then again on title page without inscription. Scortha was Somerville's horse.
Octavo. 384 pages. Paired Somerville/Ross monogram to copyright page. Red boards stamped in gilt. No dust jacket. Boards show unfortunate water damage with warping to back board, runs to cloth, fading, and some bleeding to edges of text block. Binding surprisingly still sound and staining only bleeds into edges of pages, not to text. A good candidate for a rebind.
Often ranked among the greatest Irish novels of all time, The Real Charlotte remains one of the most celebrated collaborations between Somerville and Ross [Martin].
