Very Good. Item #6628

Philadelphia: John C. Winston, 1922 or 1931. Twelve sheet maps in original cardboard sleeve. Sizes noted below are of the unfolded sheets, not the cartographic images. The cardboard sleeve is 8" x 7.25"; the closed maps are 10" x 7".

The maps were originally published as an integral accompaniment to the "History of The First Division During The World War 1917-1919" from the Society of the First Division (Philadelphia: John C. Winston, 1922, reprinted 1931; volume now lacking). Their excellent condition suggests the more recent publication date.

Paper is lightweight, resembling India paper. Topographical, strategic, movement, and labeling indications very crisply printed; red overlays on some maps very crisp and bright.

The twelve maps are: Gondecourt Area / Condé-en-Barrois Area / Vaucouleurs Area (13.75” x 32”); Sommerviller Sector (32” x 21”); Ansauville Sector (30” x 21”); Cantigny Operation (26.5” x 21”); Chaumont-en-Vexin Area / The Marne Salient (20” x 31”); Soissons Operation (19.75” x 32”); Saizerais Sector (31” x 21”); St. Mihiel Operation (31” x 20.5”); Meuse-Argonne Offensive (30” x 21”); Sedan Operation (30” x 21”); Barrage Chart (30” x 21”); and Coblentz Bridgehead (21” x 30”).

Tanning to two of the maps where they projected above the cardboard sleeve. Some tanning to folds (exaggerated to a degree by our image lighting). Nearly all edges pristine, with the exception of those affected by light. No misfolds; some closed breakage at intersection of folds on two of the maps; one small hole in Coblentz map (see photos). Two fresh closed tears away from folds suggest over-eager unfolding by recent previous owner. Otherwise remarkably clean and complete.

Price: $150.00
