Light shelf wear, spine cloth sunned, old photographic newspaper clipping tipped to front free endpaper, else a Very Good copy, pleasingly uncut. The French statesman's substantial essay collection, inscribed and signed on half title: "À Georges Brandès / en avant! G. Clemenceau." Presumably addressed to Clemenceau's friend the Danish author and critic Georg Brandes (1842-1927), with whom the author, the future Prime Minister of France, had a major falling out following the start of World War I, Brandes a staunch supporter of neutrality which came in direct opposition with Clemenceau's position of leadership during those years of conflict.
