An Act for Further Continuance of the Customs and Excize. Tuesday the 27th of December, 1659

Good. Item #6898

London: John Streater, 1659. First Edition. Quarto (26cm); removed; 4pp. [A2]; printer's emblem to title page, text printed almost entirely in blackletter. Slightly ex-library with tiny faint de-accession stamp to A2 verso, title page torn horizontally across with later fairly expert repair though with small loss affecting emblem, the whole quite dust-soiled and rather wrinkled, small closed tear mid-A2 touching text without loss of meaning. Good only overall.

"Be it Enacted...That the Duties & Revenue of Excise...shall be and are hereby continued to be paid by every Person and Persons within the Commonwealth of England, Scotland, and Ireland, and the Islands and Territories to them..." Enacted just three days after George Monck and the army restored the Long Parliament following Monck's march into London. ESTC R18593; GOLDSMITH S1164; WING E-1036. OCLC locates one copy in North America as of August, 2020, at UVA, though the ESTC adds another five.
