Study by the early French psychiatrist, much of the text "borrowed" from his father Jean-Jacques Moreau's study of eccentricity from 1859, though "its relentless emphasis on equilibrium was new" (Miranda Gill, "Eccentricity and the Cultural Imagination in Nineteenth-Century Paris" (2009), p. 264).
