Commento Storico alla Seconda Scienza Nuova [Historic Commentary on Vico's New Science] (Volume One Only)

Very Good. Item #7235

Rome: Edizioni di Storia e Letteratura, 1949. First Edition. Octavo; 339pp + 2pp of publisher's prospectuses. Broché in ochre wraps with title in red on cover and title-page. Note that this volume is complete in itself, but is only the first of the two volumes Nicolini published under this title. Entirely in Italian.

Stitching solid. Edges of wraps show normal micro-tears and creases, but wraps are whole and clean. Textblock tanned at edges but with minimal brittleness. Many pages unopened.

Fausto Nicolini (1879-1965) was the greatest Giambattista Vico specialist of the 20th century, and almost singlehandedly engineered the Vico revival which radically influenced Joyce and Beckett. His titling of his editions of Vico's Scienza Nuova would include the adjective "Seconda"—present on this commentary—which is now conventionally dropped since his Italian edition became standard for Vico.
