Fausto Nicolini (1879-1965) was the greatest Giambattista Vico specialist of the 20th century, and almost singlehandedly engineered the Vico revival which radically influenced Joyce and Beckett. His titling of his editions of Vico's Scienza Nuova would include the adjective "Seconda"—present on this commentary—which is now conventionally dropped since his Italian edition became standard for Vico.
