Large, thick octavo; contemporary triple-ruled reverse calf, gilt spine, all edges marbled, decorative endpapers; [2],512pp.; partially hand-colored double frontispiece, eleven plates, and over a hundred woodcut text illus. and maps, though lacking map called for by Howes. Leather quite rubbed and worn with some exposure at extremities and joints, old tape repair to front hinge, foxing to textblock, contemporary gift inscription of an Elizabeth Bell from her father to front flyleaf, else Good or Very Good overall.
