Jacket present but toned, split with spine missing, and significantly chipped at extremities. Boards a bit rubbed at spine ends and corners, front hinge slightly loose.

Humorously inscribed and signed by the author on front free endpaper, "For Master Richard Spong / the nicest boy in the bible class / John Ciardi / Apostolic delegate." Below inscription the author has added a list of faux "Imprimatur" signatures, including those of Earl Browder, Pope Pius X (misspelled here "Puis"), Truman Capote, Henry W. Longfellow, J. Edgar Hoover, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Nelson Rockefeller, himself, and two others (illegible). Additionally, the author has added a few brief manuscript corrections throughout text.
