First and only edition of the English author's fictional portrait of a mixed-race marriage between a white woman and the son of an African king. Unsurprisingly, the contemporary reviewer for Munsey's Magazine deemed the story, while "wholly free from actual immorality...undoubtedly the most revolting piece of fiction that has left the press of a reputable house in many a long day." The reviewer also did not approve of the heroine drinking a goblet of perfume.
