Varnum was a Whig member of the New York State Assembly, and also, clearly had an interest in the plans and monuments for Washington, DC, and is buried in Congressional Cemetery. Includes sections on the Smithsonian Institution and the Washington Monument, with a list of heights of columns and obelisks around the world (Washington Monument being the tallest).

Wraps smudges and creased with light chipping around edges. Lacking rear wrapper. Binding still holding. Pages spotted but otherwise legible and unmarked.
