Very Good / Very Good. Item #8768
Shanghai: Shanghai People’s Art Museum, 1979. First Edition. Quarto (38x33.5cm); 69 unpaginated leaves (138pp), reproducing 60 Song Dynasty paintings.
Pictorial dustjacket. White boards with title stamped in gilt on front panel. Housed in original protective case (39x34x2.5cm), with red paper title label on case spine. Textblock of heavy daolin paper. Entirely in Chinese.
Note that this volume is printed for a Chinese audience, and published traditionally with the spine binding on the right edge (not on the left as in the Euro-American mode). Chinese text is vertical throughout, reading top to bottom and right to left. WorldCat shows only six copies in North American institutions; none in European.
Case is robust, showing normal age-toning, sunning, and light edgewear with one superficial damp stain to upper panel; label on case is whole with slight edgewear. Dust jacket shows minimal edge crimping from withdrawal and insertion into case. Binding is nearly pristine, with only slight dust soiling to bottom edge; textblock unmarred and unmarked. From the private library of a Smithsonian Asian art specialist.
