Very Good / Good +. Item #9117
Garden City, NY: Doubleday, Page & Company, 1913. First Edition. Octavo (20.5cm.); publisher's blue decorative cloth in matching blue Art-Deco dust jacket; 602pp.; color frontispiece, three leaves of color plates, early few leaves printed on pale blue pictorial stock. Jacket rather chipped and worn at extremities, long closed tear at bottom margin of upper panel touching text without loss of meaning, long split along bottom third of rear spine edge, small paper flaw mid-spine with brief loss of sense; cloth extremities slightly rubbed, faint soil to textblock fore-edge, else a Very Good copy in a Good or better example of this early-ish dust jacket.
Novel of high-spirited romance and adventure dubbed the author's best by at least one contemporary reviewer ("full of fresh air, sunshine, and ozone"), though the author's earlier work, Freckles, has probably endured the longest, if "endured" is the right word.
