Very Good. Item #9138
Paris: Adrian Perier, 1606. Two volumes in one; thick quarto (23.5cm.); contemporary calf, gilt spine in six compartments, marbled endpapers; ,757,; ,643,pp. (collated and complete); woodcut initials and head- and tail-pieces. Leather dried and scuffed at extremities, joints cracked and chipped but still holding, losses at spine ends leaving headband exposed, a number of gatherings significantly browned, though contents remain clean and sound with very occasional marginalia in an early hand, just a few leaves trimmed close slightly affecting text without loss of meaning. Very Good overall.
Quite an uncommon edition of Amyot's immensely popular translation of the works of Plutarch--we find just three copies in OCLC as of March, 2021, all improperly described and none outside Europe.
