Athens: New Home, 25 December 1959, Issue 779. First and Sole Edition Thus. Octavo (25x18x2cm); 262pp + 10pp of terminal advertising. Tipped-in frontispiece photograph of Kazantzakis on coated stock; over a dozen other B&W documentary photographs printed within the articles, including one spread of sheet music. Illustrated broché cream wrappers in heavy laid card stock; slight yapp edges; stitched gatherings. Entirely in Greek.

Volume is somewhat browned—more on the spine, less on the covers—both by sun and by frequent handling. Binding remains altogether solid, however, and card spine is neither creased nor cracked. Textblock paper stock is of journal- rather than book-quality, and is tanned throughout, but it was heavy enough that it has not brittled, flaked, or crumbled at edges. All in all, the volume is in remarkably good shape. A separate quarto index for previous volumes of “New Home” is laid in.

The previous owner’s signature is the bottom inside of the front cover, and one article—by Kimon Friar on “The Intellectual Practice of Nikos Kazantzakis”—is heavily annotated in ink with attempts at English translation. But that is the only one of the 36 pieces with any marks. Those pieces includes critiques, eulogies, poetry, excerpts, polemics, and other tribute memoirs.
